AI is rapidly growing in sophistication, moving from solely executing dedicated tasks in the past, to performing extremely complex activities by training itself. With the explosion in the popularity of Generative AI, 2023 is set to be an inflection point for rapid AI adoption. Growth of AI technology is expected to lead on to a further phase, where it could gain human-like cognitive abilities, in the form of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Governments have started exploring AI applications in the areas of transportation/mobility, national security and defense, social services, public finance management, justice and public safety, public health, as well as education.
Simultaneously, concerns related to its risks are on a rise. The technology poses various risks to both individuals and society at large, including governance bias, inaccurate decision-making, lack of human supervision, potential for identity theft, data breach, and low technology know-how amongst citizens.
Responsible AI is an emerging area of AI governance covering ethics, morals and legal values in the development and deployment of beneficial AI. As a governance framework, responsible AI documents show how public sector should address the challenges around AI in the service of good for individuals and society.

Stamatis Ezovalis is a Senior Manager at Technology Consulting in EY, with the responsibility of Designing and Implementing state of the art Technology Solutions for Government and Public Sector. Stamatis has more than 15 years of experience in large-scale government ICT projects, including e-Government, Digital Transformation, IT Consulting and Digital Strategy for Greek Public Sector, International Organizations and EU institutions.
Before joining EY, Stamatis worked for Atos (former Siemens SIS), Intrasoft International, European Dynamics and the Greek Ministry of Finance as a Special IT Advisor to the Minister, successfully contributing to some of the most complex projects for the Government.
He holds a B.Sc. in Applied Informatics University of Macedonia, M.Sc. in Software Systems Engineering from University College London & London Business School, and Executive MBA from International Hellenic University.
